NEW FIELD HIRES AUTHORIZED AT EEOC

The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission

PRESS RELEASE
8-18-06

WASHINGTON -- Cari M. Dominguez, Chair of the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), today announced the authorization of the most extensive one-time hiring of field staff during the five years of her tenure at the federal agency.

EEOC’s Office of General Counsel and Office of Field Programs have been given the go-ahead to hire 70 new staff for front-line field office positions. This group of 70 new hires will supplement the more than 180 new hires that have been made in field positions over the past three fiscal years through careful and efficient management of resources.

“I have been committed to placing our resources where they are most needed,” said Chair Dominguez. “That has been a central factor in the creation of a National Contact Center, the recent repositioning of our field organization, our buy-out/early-out retirement programs, and our plans to streamline our headquarters operations. This hiring authorization reflects the first fruits of those efforts. There’s more to come.”

EEOC is responsible for enforcing federal laws prohibiting employment discrimination. Further information about the EEOC is available on its web site at www.eeoc.gov.
