Promoting Access to Voting

In March 2021, President Biden issued Executive Order (EO) 14019 on Promoting Access to Voting. The EO stated that “(i)t is the responsibility of the Federal Government to expand access to, and education about, voter registration and election information,” and directed all federal agencies to “consider ways to expand citizens’ opportunities to register to vote and to obtain information about, and participate in, the electoral process.”[1]

In response, the EEOC provides the following information and resources about voter registration and the election process in the United States.

VOTER REGISTRATION:

Visit vote.gov to learn more about voter registration, look up your registration deadline, and begin the voter registration process. Depending on the rules for your state or territory, you will find instructions on how to register online, by mail, or in person at your local election office.

THE ELECTION PROCESS:

Visit USA.gov’s webpage on Voting and Elections or call 1-844-USA-GOV1 to learn more about Congressional and Presidential elections, voting and election laws, and how to vote.

STATE VOTING RESOURCES:

State and local elections, through which voters may elect their governor, state legislature, mayor, or other local officials, can take place in any year and at various times throughout the year. To find out more about upcoming elections in your area, check your state or local election office.
