Jacquelyn Hines

Charging Party, EEOC v. New Breed Logistics, (U.S. District Court for the Western District of Tennessee at Memphis)
Meeting of June 17, 2015 - Retaliation in the Workplace: Causes, Remedies, and Strategies for Prevention

Ms. Hines is a resident of Memphis, Tennessee, where she has lived her entire life. Ms. Hines attended Booker T. Washington High School. Because of a teenage pregnancy, Ms. Hines did not graduate from high school. She obtained her GED shortly after giving birth. Later, Ms. Hines attended Southwest Tennessee Community College from 2006-2007 where she pursued general studies. She left school to seek work. For several years, Ms. Hines obtained work through various temporary staffing agencies in Memphis where she was placed to work primarily in warehouses earning at or near minimum wage. In 2008, she worked at one of New Breed Logistics' warehouses through Select Staffing. While working at New Breed she was subjected to sexual harassment and then discharged in April 2008 because she opposed discriminatory conduct. As Ms. Hines explains, she was tired of working temporary assignments without any stability, so, in December 2009, Ms. Hines enrolled at Concorde Career College to study to become a physical therapy assistant. Concorde offered Ms. Hines the opportunity of job security and a career. In February 2012, Ms. Hines obtained an Associate of Applied Science degree. Later, she obtained her certification/license in physical therapy. Ms. Hines currently works as a physical therapist assistant for a therapy clinic where she has been employed since September 2014. Ms. Hines has two children, Brittany and Jasmine, ages 15 and 18. Brittany graduated from high school last month and will attend college in the fall. Ms. Hines' daughters continue to motivate her daily.
