Kweilin Ellingrud

Partner, McKinsey & Company

Kweilin Ellingrud is a Partner at McKinsey & Company and the Minneapolis Location Leader. Kweilin is the first woman to lead the office of ~70 people. She works closely with Midwest leadership to develop clients, increase reach and relevance, and drive retention. She is the recipient of McKinsey's Midwest Inspirational Leader Award and three-time Blue Ribbon Mentor Award. Over the past 12+ years at McKinsey, Kweilin has led multiple global transformations, integrating both operations and strategy to empower employees and improve efficiency and effectiveness. Kweilin leads McKinsey's work on the "Power of Parity" on both the global and U.S. Level. She is an author of "Power of Parity: How advancing women's equality can add $12 T to global growth" as well as "Power of Parity: Advancing Women's Equality in the United States." As part of that work, the team identified global and U.S. "impact zones" and linked economic equality to social equality. Over the past few years, Kweilin has worked with UN Women on the HeForShe campaign strategy and has worked with a number of UN organizations. Beyond McKinsey, Kweilin has served on the Board of College Possible for many years, and the Board of the YWCA of Minneapolis for the last few years. Kweilin is passionate about women's issues and education. She was also recently named one of the "Top 10 Corporate Women in Minnesota" by Twin Cities Business Magazine and a "2015 Women in Business" by Minneapolis / St. Paul Business Journal. Prior to re-joining McKinsey in 2005, Mrs. Ellingrud was an analyst in the New York office of McKinsey. She worked for two years at the Center for Women & Enterprise (CWE), a nonprofit organization in Boston that helps women entrepreneurs start and grow businesses. At CWE she created a micro-loan program for low income women. Mrs. Ellingrud has an MBA from Harvard Business School where she was president of the Women's Student Association. She graduated with high honors from Harvard University where she majored in Economics and Political Science. Kweilin is married to David Ellingrud, and they live in Hopkins with their 3 daughters: Kyla is 3 and Hana and Alexa are 10 month old twin girls.
