EEOC Co-Chairs Public Service Recognition Week 2021

WASHINGTON – The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) is celebrating Public Service Recognition Week (PSRW) May 2-8, 2021 by highlighting the critical contributions of its employees and public servants to fulfilling its mission to prevent and remedy unlawful employment discrimination and advance equal opportunity for all in the workplace.

EEOC Chair Charlotte A. Burrows is serving as a co-chair of this year’s celebration. “I’m pleased to support Public Service Recognition Week and honor the dedicated public servants who serve our nation as government employees. EEOC staff work tirelessly to enforce our nation’s civil rights laws and ensure that everyone has equal opportunity at work,” Burrows said.

Vice Chair Jocelyn Samuels added: “I am delighted to join in this celebration of our nation’s dedicated public servants – individuals who are the too-often unsung heroes who provide critical services to people across the country.  Particularly in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, the contributions of our federal, state, local, and tribal government employees could not be more necessary or important.”

Commissioner Janet Dhillon said: “Historically, the EEOC has been a small agency with a huge mission.  EEOC employees are truly dedicated to our mission to prevent and remedy unlawful employment discrimination and to advance equal employment opportunity in the workplace.  They have shown great resilience over the last year in the face of COVID-19, I thank them for their determined service to the public.”

“As a nation, we owe a debt of gratitude to the many public servants who worked tirelessly this past year, in spite of a pandemic, to fulfill their essential duties,” said Commissioner Andrea Lucas. “The staff of the EEOC never wavered from advancing our mission, and I am grateful for their hard work to combat employment discrimination and ensure equal opportunity for all in the workplace.”   

Commissioner Keith Sonderling said, “My sincere thanks to all government employees who serve our nation.  The country owes you its gratitude for your hard work, dedication, and skill.  A special thank you to those at the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission who carry out the critical work of preventing and remedying unlawful employment discrimination and advancing equal workplace opportunity for all.  Your daily work, known and unknown, makes our nation stronger and more just.”
 
PSRW’s goal is to acknowledge and honor the people who serve our nation as federal, state, local, and tribal government employees; inform the public about the important work of government employees; and help inspire a new generation of public servants. PSRW is celebrated the first week of May since 1985.
